1997 - 2003 Era
PASGT
The first widely adopted kevlar helmet used by the US Marine Corps (USMC), was the PASGT kevlar helmet. Although not a LWH, it is important to set the history of what came before the LWH. Interestingly, although the PASGT was issued in the 1980s, it saw service with the Marine Corp well through OIF-II. Noted in the example below, you can see a issued PASGT with a MARPAT Cover.
Another Interesting widely seen Marine Corps PASGT Helmet, is this modified example below. This PASGT was modified with a new upgraded black liner and chinstrap. This modification was only seen on USMC PASGT helmets during OIF-I (2003).
2005 - 2007 Era
Lightweight Marine Corp Helmet
The first widely adopted LWH helmet was the Lightweight Marine Corps helmet, made by Gentex (Contact DAAD16-99-D-1015). This early example can easily be denoted by the manufacturer tag placement on the center of the helmets dome, and its upgraded PASGT style helmet liner.
2007 - 2010 Era
Lightweight Marine Corp Helmet
The second iteration of the LWH that we see was the Lightweight Marine Corps Helmet, made by Gentex and BAE systems (Contact DAAD16-99-D-1015). These most notably can be denoted by the manufacturer tag placement change and switch from PASGT style hardware to foam helmet padding. A shift from black hardware to tan was also made, but seen interchangeably.
Later made examples will also be seen in tan, while earlier made pieces will be seen in green.
2014 - 2017 Era
Lightweight Marine Corp Helmet
The final iteration of the LWH that we see is the Lightweight Marine Corp Helmet, made by Gentex (Contact M67854-11-D-3024). By late 2012 the US Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) was after a new LWH that could integrate with the Army’s MICH / ACH and their improved ECH. By 2014 production began on this improved LWH helmet.
