Original Iraqi Fedayeen Helmet
Apart of our online reference is a very rare and original Iraqi Fedayeen helmet.
The Iraqi Fedayeen was founded in 1995 by Uday Hussien and operated as an elite paramilitary unit rather than regular armed forces. According to legend – Uday was an avid Star Wars fan, and requested that the Fedayeen helmet be designed to resemble Darth Vader masks, but with Arabic writing on the Fedayeen Insignia crest. Although the Fedayeen were in use since their foundation, they became increasingly infamous during the Iraqi invasion in 2003 due to the stiff resistance put up against coalition forces. More so, after the fall of Baghdad, it was found that the Fedayeen often carried out war crimes in an effort to control civilian populations.
It is still uncertain how many of these helmets exist – but a vast majority of them were destroyed post war. Lastly, all UK captured Fedayeen helmets were required to have the Fedayeen Insignia removed. With this, having a complete helmet in this condition is a very rare find and one to study in the future.
